Who Benefits
Hunger is very hidden and silent in our community. Single parent families with young children and senior citizens are the two largest groups of people suffering from hunger in Greenville County. Solving the hunger problem is more than handing out food to be consumed that day, yet each of us needs to eat regularly to work, go to school, stay healthy and be productive. In 2007 Loaves & Fishes delivered 782,568 pounds of perishable food donations from 106 food donors such as local grocery stores, restaurants, schools, caterers, wholesalers and distributors. Food donations help 93 agencies provide food boxes at pantries and neighborhood food distribution centers; three meals a day meals at shelters and group homes; and a daily hot meal at soup kitchens. Food donations help feed more than 60,000 people in our community who don't know where one or more of their daily meals will come from.
